Human Resources has been described as an integral part of any Business and the future is driven by technology, data analytics, innovation and consistent manpower development.
Human Resources expert, Mrs Ann Bassey said this at a training recently organized by Women In Media Development Initiative [WIMDI] Training organized for Female Human Resources Managers in the Media.
She said Human Resources professionals who have Phenomenal Knowledge of what is happening at the bottom level can manage human Capital needs based on the Business skills adding that Human Capital Needs now has to be tailored to meet Business needs of every organization.
Mrs Bassey said gone were the days when people were employed based on single or rudimentary skills. The future require people be employed based on multi skills and ability to bring more to the table for the overall interest of the organizations they worked for.
According to her HR is undergoing fundamental change that will see Traditional HR falling behind and replaced by new skilled professionals ready to change the world. Hence the need for HR professional to daily equip themselves to function according to Global Standards.
The session which had participants drawn from 26 Media Organisations examined the role of Human Resources in ensuring talent acquisition are taken on, sustained and motivated in a strategic manner. It also took a holistic look at the challenges of HR Managers and future of Human Resources in the Media among others.
The participants shared their experiences and challenges working in the media which include lack of adequate software and trainings, undue interference of Business owners and executive management, poor Staff Engagement,poor skillset of manpower and lackadaisical attitude to work on the part of staffs they manage.
Women In Media Team Lead, Omolola Oladimeji in her welcome remark said the mandate of the organization is to enhance the capacity of Women who work in the media irrespective of their departments. Hence the need for consistent training to ensure they give their best to the society and act as agent of change in their work places.
